Adsorption of Cobalt and Strontium Ions on Plant-Derived Activated Carbons: The Suggested Mechanisms

چکیده
In this study, activated carbons derived from walnut shells (CA-N) and apple wood (CA-M) were used as adsorbents to remove cobalt(II) strontium(II) ions aqueous solutions. The novel materials obtained using nitric acid (CA-Mox) acid/urea mixture (CA-Mox-u, CA-Nox-u) oxidizing agents. physical–chemical characteristics of determined nitrogen sorption isotherms, SEM-EDX, FTIR, pH metric titrations, the Boehm titration method elemental analysis. results batch experiments indicate that maximum adsorption can be achieved in broad ranges: 4–8 for Co(II) 4–10 Sr(II). capacities Sr(II) on oxidized at = 4 are: CA-Mox, 0.085 0.076 mmol/g; CA-Mox-u, 0.056 0.041 CA-Nox-u, 0.034 mmol/g, respectively. mathematical models (pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order intraparticle diffusion kinetic models, Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin–Radushkevich, Temkin–Pyzhev isotherm models) explain kinetics, study mechanism predict capacity adsorbents. mechanisms toxic metal proposed.

Understanding Phenol Adsorption Mechanisms on Activated Carbons
The interactions between phenol molecules and activated carbons were investigated in order to understand the adsorption mechanism of this aromatic compound. A series of activated carbons with varied chemical composition but similar porous features were synthesized and submitted to phenol exposure from aqueous phase, followed by thermogravimetric analysis and identification of the desorbed speci...
متن کاملCO2 adsorption by activated templated carbons.
Highly porous carbons have been prepared by the chemical activation of two mesoporous carbons obtained by using hexagonal- (SBA-15) and cubic (KIT-6)-ordered mesostructured silica as hard templates. These materials were investigated as sorbents for CO(2) capture. The activation process was carried out with KOH at different temperatures in the 600-800°C range. Textural characterization of these ...
متن کاملEffect of porous texture on hydrogen adsorption in activated carbons
Physisorption-based hydrogen (H 2) storage in microporous carbons has a trade-off between adsorption capacity and adsorption enthalpy [5]. Conceptually, this problem is best illustrated in terms of the ideal slit pore formed from two parallel, semi-infinite graphite slabs. Packing density is maximized when the pore width is several times larger than the diameter of the H 2 molecule, since it pe...
متن کاملAdsorption of metal ions by pecan shell-based granular activated carbons.
The present investigation was undertaken to evaluate the adsorption effectiveness of pecan shell-based granular activated carbons (GACs) in removing metal ions (Cu(2+), Pb(2+), Zn(2+)) commonly found in municipal and industrial wastewater. Pecan shells were activated by phosphoric acid, steam or carbon dioxide activation methods. Metal ion adsorption of shell-based GACs was compared to the meta...
